In 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology set up the "Intelligent Ship 1.0 Project" to organize the top general institutes, intelligent system development units, shipbuilding groups, colleges and universities in the shipbuilding industry to jointly carry out the research on Intelligent ships. China Shipping Group is the organizer and implementer of the project and an important participant. The Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Institute and China Ship Industry System Engineering Research Institute under the Group will play a leading role in the industry, together with China Merchants Bureau Energy Transport Co., Ltd., Beijing Hailanxin Data Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Ship Transport Research Institute, CCS and Harbin Engineering University. With their respective advantages, we will make every effort to promote the research and development of "Intelligent Ship 1.0 Project".
On November 14, 2018, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., which belongs to China Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd., successfully completed the trial voyage of the world''s first 400,000-ton VLOC. Under the careful organization of Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, the intelligent ship project team has overcome the difficulties caused by bad sea conditions, cumbersome sea trials and many uncertainties. After 10 days of sea trials, the set goals have been successfully achieved. Navigation test results show that all the functions of the ship''s intelligent system meet the requirements of scientific research tasks. Its results have been unanimously recognized by shipowners, China Classification Society (CCS) and DNV GL.
As the first demonstration ship of the 1.0 Intelligent Ship Research and Development Project in China, the ship achieves five functions of intelligent modules: assistant autopilot, energy efficiency management, equipment operation and maintenance, ship-shore integrated communication, cargo liquefaction monitoring and so on by constructing the network platform and information platform of service intelligent system. The ship acquired CCS i-ship (N, M, E, I) and DNV GL Smart Ship classification symbols. It is the first intelligent ship to be certified by both classification societies and the first intelligent ship in the world to be certified by DNV GL.
